The Industrial Monuments Route: a region shaped by work

A mine is only the beginning. Behind each machine lie an idea, effort and the everyday lives of people who kept the region moving.

History and context

The route connects mining, metalworking, railways, energy, waterworks and other industries, including workers’ settlements. Below are all 42 entries visible in the operator’s list checked on 4 October 2026. The same website’s general description gives a different total, so the list is not a guarantee of current membership or opening.

Take a closer look

Choose one theme for the day: underground work, transport or settlement life. Comparing two related places can be more rewarding than five unrelated stops. Open the operator’s page before travelling: routes may differ in age limits, accessibility, clothing requirements and guided-tour languages.
